Boston, MA (Sports Network) - R.J. Hunter tied a career-high with 27 points as
the Georgia State Panthers used a second-half surge to take down the
Northeastern Huskies, 78-73, in a Colonial Athletic Association bout at
Hunter shot 10-of-18 from the field, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc for
Georgia State (11-12, 6-4 CAA), which has won five of its last six games.
Devonta White and Rashaad Richardson scored 13 points apiece, while Manny
Atkins netted 12 points. Hunter, White, and Atkins all dished out five assists
in the triumph.
Reggie Spencer tallied 17 points and nine rebounds for Northeastern (13-8,
8-1), which snapped an eight-game winning streak to open up conference play.
Joel Smith had 16 points in the setback, while Demetrius Pollard and Jonathan
Lee put up 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Georgia State shot an impressive 51.9 percent from the floor in the first
half, but Northeastern was even better at 64.3 percent, as the Huskies went
into intermission with a 46-39 lead.
The Panthers continued their hot shooting after halftime, connecting on 50
percent of their field goal attempts, while the Huskies' field goal efficiency
slowed to 38.1 percent. Georgia State ran off a 24-2 run midway through the
second half to help seal its fate.
