Columbia, SC (WLTX) - USC Coach Steve Spurrier says he believes the USC program has reached a point where it won't turn back from its winning ways.

In an interview with, Spurrier said that he understands that the fan base knows the team is capable of winning 11 games, and will want to see that type of success every year.

Spurrier said he accepts that reality, and says it's been fun accomplishing 'firsts' at USC, including historic wins for the program at Tennesee and Florida's home fields.

Spurrier was asked about SEC coaches and programs. He said that if Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban wants to be thought of as a great coach, he needs to win at some place other than Alabama, because "they've always won there." (He did, however, say he thought Saban was the best coach in the league)

He also said he always looked forward to playing Georgia in an early game in the season because they always had two or three suspended players, and that Florida Coach Will Muschamp had a tough job because of the high expectations down in Gainesville.

Spurrier also said he hopes the team will be a bit sounder on defense with Lorenzo Ward leading that unit, saying that there were some coverage breakdowns in the past.
