Steve Spurrier and Brady Hoke shake hands at a news conference on Dec. 31, 2012.
Tampa, FL (WLTX) - USC Head Coach Steve Spurrier says his team is healthy and ready to go against Michigan in the Outback Bowl.
Spurrier and Michigan Coach Brady Hoke spoke Monday morning to reporters about the game.
"Should be a heck of a game," Spurrier said. "We're looking forward to it.
To clear up any confusion, Spurrier reiterated that Connor Shaw will start the game, although Dylan Thompson could see action during the game as well. Hoke said Devin Gardner will start for the Wolverines, while Denard Robinson will get in the mix at quarterback and other positions.
The team's been down in Tampa for the last several days, and Spurrier says they've practiced well with no distractions. The coach credits senior leadership for keeping them focused.
Spurrier also rebuffed the idea that the game can serve as part of a continuing "SEC versus the Big 10" superiority contest. He says that's mostly just media hype.
USC plays Michigan at 1 p.m. on New Year's Day.
