(WLTX) --- USC pitcher Forrest Koumas will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the 2014 baseball season with the goal of returning in 2015 completely healthy.

Koumas has struggled of late. This past season, he had just four starts in 10 appearances with no decisions. His earned run average was 8.35. He did not play in the Super Regional. His last appearance was in that blowout win over Liberty where he gave up a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

The former Lugoff-Elgin standout came to USC on the heels of an impressive high school career where he starred on both the football and baseball teams for the Demons.

Former coach Ray Tanner commented on the football-mentality Koumas brought to the mound and his first year of 2011 saw him earn Freshman All-SEC honors after going 6-1 with a 2.96 ERA.

That success has not followed him in the last two seasons and now, Koumas will undergo the surgery and return in 2015 as a redshirt senior.
