Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Joe Connolly was promoted to head strength coach for football nearly two years ago and he has received nothing but praise from head coach Steve Spurrier.
After a win over UCF on a hot and humid day in Orlando, Spurrier said a big reason for the victory was the fact that his players were in such good physical condition and that can be traced directly to the work Connolly and his staff put in to get the players ready for those all-important Saturdays and the occassional Thursday.
Connolly's duties on gameday are expanded in that he does more than direct the team during pre-game stretching.
Every college football team has someone designated to keep all sideline personnel in the team box. With the action getting intense on the field, Connolly spends a lot of time keeping the coaches from getting too far on the field.
It's not unsual to see Connolly literally pulling coaches back into the team box. In addition to keeping the coaches in their area, Connolly and his staff assist in other areas such as hydrating the players and making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be during those quick changes of personnel.
