News19 Players of the Year Announced

  • Sumter's Molly Catherine Duggan will run cross country at Winthrop as a walk-on and major in special education
  • Joseph Carney will play football and major in education at Limestone
  • Each of the News19 Players of the Year receive a $1,000 scholarship

Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- The 2012-2013 season of the News19 Player of the Week program is in the books, capped off by the announcement of the two Players of the Year.

The female recipient is Molly Catherine Duggan from Sumter High School.

Duggan will walk on at Winthrop for cross country and major in special education. Duggan has been named the Youth Special Olympics Volunteer of the Year for her work in the Sumter area.

The male honoree is Joseph Carney from Lee Central High School. Carney was a captain of the football team which advanced to the third round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Both Duggan and Carney received a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship courtesy of title sponsor Bojangles and News19.
