COLUMBIA -- Wichita State men’s basketball coach Gregg Marshall said today he hasn’t been contacted by the University of South Carolina nor has he contacted the school about its basketball coaching job.
"Going forward, I do not plan to discuss any other job, position or situation other than the one I have," Marshall said in a five-paragraph statement issued by the school.
Marshall, who is in his first year at Wichita State after nine years at Winthrop University, said his "total focus" was on building the Shockers program "toward excellence."
Marshall said he has learned he can’t "control rumor and speculation from the media and other sources, so I felt I needed to make a statement."
USC coach Dave Odom, 65, announced Friday that he was retiring at the end of the season after seven years at USC and 43 years as a coach both at the college and high school level.
Wichita State is 8-10 this season.
